Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and prepare three 8-inch round cake pans.

  3. In another bowl, dissolve instant espresso in hot water and mix with buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla.
  4. Combine wet ingredients with dry ingredients until just mixed.
  5. Divide batter among prepared pans and bake for 24–27 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. For frosting, beat butter until creamy; gradually add black cocoa powder, powdered sugar, heavy cream, and melted dark chocolate chips until smooth.
