  • 12 lasagna noodles (uncooked)
  • 4 cups mozzarella cheese (divided)
  • 1/2 cup Parmesan cheese (divided)
  • 3/4 tsp salt (more to taste)
  • 1/2 lb lean ground beef
  • 1/2 lb Italian sausage
  • 1 yellow onion (diced)
  • 2 garlic cloves (minced)
  • 36 oz pasta sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 cups ricotta cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley (chopped)
  • 1 large egg (beaten)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Boil lasagna noodles in a large pot until al dente; drain and rinse under cold water.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, brown ground beef and Italian sausage with diced onion and minced garlic until no longer pink; drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in pasta sauce, tomato paste, Italian seasoning, and salt; simmer for about five minutes.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, chopped parsley, and beaten egg.
  6. In a greased 9×13 baking pan, layer one cup of meat sauce, three noodles, one-third of the ricotta mixture, and another cup of meat sauce; repeat two more times.
  7. Top with remaining noodles and meat sauce.
  8. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for about 45 minutes.
  9. Remove foil; sprinkle remaining mozzarella and Parmesan on top and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes.
  10. Broil on high for two to three minutes for extra browning if desired.
  11. Let rest for at least fifteen minutes before slicing.
