Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup buttermilk
  • 2½ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 4 cups bread flour
  • 1¼ teaspoons salt
  • 6 tablespoons salted butter (room temperature)
  • 4 cloves garlic (finely chopped)
  • ¼ cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups grated cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup fresh chopped basil
  • 2 tablespoons fresh chopped thyme
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chopped oregano

Instructions

  1. In a stand mixer, combine buttermilk, yeast, sugar, eggs, flour, and salt. Mix with a dough hook for about 4–5 minutes until combined.
  2. Add in the room temperature butter and mix for another 2–3 minutes until the dough is smooth.
  3. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for about two hours until doubled in size.
  4. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread a mixture of remaining butter, garlic, herbs, and cheeses over it. Roll tightly and seal.
  5. Cut the rolled dough lengthwise to create twists and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Allow to rise again for about 45 minutes until puffy. Brush with melted butter mixed with garlic powder.
  7. Bake at 350°F for approximately 30–35 minutes until golden brown.
